ZTE opened a networking testing and development center on August 3, 2011, dubbed ZTE Innovation Center, in the United Kingdom, according to the Cellular-News. The new center is projected to allow ZTE to conduct R&D programs through cooperation with major operators in the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, ZTE and Smart Communications have signed a contract for metro Ethernet transport network deployment in the Philippines, according to an August 4, 2011 report by Total Telecom. As per the contract, ZTE will establish a bearer network for Smart Communications throughout the Philippines.
